By building upon the rich musical heritage of kadodi music with elements of footwork, electronica and amapiano, combined with experimental choreography, Mostrixx presents a multi-faceted view of the past, present and future of the East African music scene. We caught up with the artist to discuss his latest album, Mutations, and the wide array of cultural and sonic influences that fused the record together.

With tracks that span contemporary classical, experimental electronics, trip-hop, and jazz, these artists showcase the creative and cultural energy of Iran’s capital city. We spoke with seven artists featured on the “This is Tehran?” compilation to discuss the ever-evolving musical heritage of Iran, overcoming political pressure, and the true meaning of independent art. The shift in his personal life inspired his lyrics to bridge the gap from Cold Cave's previous themes of hopelessness and despair to acceptance and reconciliation of joy, all while staying rooted in the aloof, cold aesthetics of his music. In this interview, we discuss leaving behind the comforts of depression, evoking confidence through songwriting, and holding romanticized visions of love.
