ICYMI: A roundup of the "song of the week" features from the past month.

September 28th

Song: "BITE ME"
Artist: Kilo Kish
T&E writer Sieya says, "Kilo Kish is one of the most slept on musicians of the last decade. She's been grinding for almost 10 years and is seriously underrated. I started to love her after she spit one the hardest verses of 2012 on Childish Gambino's song "Make It Go Right".  This song of the week, 'BITE ME', came out almost a year ago on her REDUX EP. I've been bumping it ever since. The song is basically an F YOU to the music industry for trying to get her to change her sound and look to fit the typical industry mold. In my opinion, she's a gem, so I hope I can put at least a few more people on to her music this week that don't already love her."

October 5th

Song: "Do What the Spirits Say Do"
Artist: Len Chandler and the Freedom Voices
T&E writer Adam says, "The spirit in this song will outlast every cop in America."

Song: "New Slang"
Artist: Samantha Urbani
T&E writer Alex says, "The good people at Stereogum recently released a digital compilation album of various artists covering songs from the 00's to raise money after they found themselves in pandemic-related financial troubles. Just by itself, Samantha Urbani's imaginative cover of "New Slang" by The Shins made me glad that I contributed. Her breezy, bass-driven pop cover breathes new life and a new perspective into the song from Natalie Portman's headphones in Garden State that introduced the world to indie rock. It's currently unavailable on streaming services; Stereogum said don't upload it anywhere, and so far it looks like everyone who contributed has made good on that promise. However, Samantha Urbani posted a small clip on her Instagram and teased that she might release sometime soon. She also says she might send it to you if you DM her your proof of voter registration. I can't vouch for whether that's true or not, but hey, you should at least try and see if it works. It'll change your life, I swear."

October 19th

Song: "Cool Schmool"
Artist:
 Bratmobile.
T&E writer A. Iwasa says, "Another '90s band whose name I remember from way back when, but don't believe I've heard until now since YouTube has become the world's jukebox.  Reading Cometbus #59, Post-Mortem, there's an interview with Bratmobile's Allison Wolfe, which prompted me to finally check them out.  I probably would have liked their almost surfy, twangy sound and in-your-face lyrics when they were new, so it's a bit of a drag knowing I missed out."

October 26th

Song: "Sleeping Throats of the Antichrist"
Artist: Teitanblood
T&E writer Andrej says, "Filthy, claustrophobic, oppressive, and heavy as hell, Teitanblood's take on the bestial and primitive vein of blackened death metal is impressive. 'Sleeping Throats of the Antichrist', like nearly all of the songs on their second album, Death, provides little solace over its long runtime. Sections of intense blasting chaos and monstrous, de-tuned breakdowns are further broken up and disoriented by grindcore-y, schizophrenic noise, ominous chanting, static, and the like. Such an overwhelming and suffocating sound requires an attentive listen, but those that do will be well-rewarded by an otherworldly and fascinating sonic experience that simultaneously borders on unlistenable and yet can't be put down."
