ICYMI: A roundup of our song of the week features from the month of November.

"Going Through the Night" - Elephant Gym

T&E writer Brandon Biallas says, "Creating an addictive fusion of jazz and math rock, Taiwanese band Elephant Gym have created something truly special for their latest single. Borrowing a guitar sample from the Japanese band, toe, and their song ‘Two Moons’, it’s a beautiful spin on another band’s idea. Paying homage to a band by repurposing one of their ideas and it giving way to something new and equally beautiful says a lot about the musical community and how it truly defies the imaginary lines we call borders.”

"Who Knows Where the Time Goes?" - Fairport Convention

T&E writer Brian Denton says, "Right around this time of year I get in the mood for some thoughtful 60s jams: slow and calm and perfect for a foggy evening. Fairport Convention satisfies that craving like no other. 'Who Knows Where the Time Goes?' is a song about the shortening days of winter and the migrating of the birds... As the song comes to a close, it becomes clear that the lyrics aren't just about the season itself, but the winter of the singer's life, where all you need is the cozy fire and the one you love and not much else."

"Quite Like You" -  Andy Shauf

T&E writer Greg Gonzales says, "Andy Shauf's meticulous storytelling knows no bounds. In the album 'The Party', he tells multiple stories of a single evening through the eyes of various characters, sometimes placing the listener in their shoes. You can feel the awkwardness, the fun, the humiliation, the missed connections. In this song, his beautiful, Wilco-inspired indie pop punctuates a scene where a guy gets a little too self-righteous and hopeful over a girl made miserable by his friend Jeremy. The song seems cute and hopeful until the narrator drunkenly loses his shit."

"Life is Not the Same" - James Blake

T&E writer Brittne says: "I had this album to listen to when I was far from home and missing dear friends. This song is especially heartbreaking and beautiful. Blakes' voice is so beautiful and sad and the minimalist beat and production on this track especially highlights that."

 "It's Christmas, Motherf**kers" - Logan Lynn

“Last summer I asked Rudy, ‘Where do you think all the people who called us bitter in the 90s are now?’ ‘At the Whitney’s David Wojnarowicz exhibit,’ he said.” -- Nate Lippens, My Dead Book (Publication Studio, 2021).
