ICYMI: A roundup of our song of the week features from the month of January.

"Mi Nuevo Amor" - La Doña

Ronny says, "One of my favorites of 2021 and one of the most fun up-and-coming artists in the Bay has to be Bernal Heights-raised La Doña. Backed by a family band that plays cumbia like you’re at someone’s tia’s birthday party feasting on tamales in the living room, every song sounds so familiar, down-to-earth, and celebratory while being conscious of the trials of the world. This track may be her best one yet, blending cumbia with hyphy into a joyful new form of Latin-inspired hip hop."

"Impossible Weight" - Deep Sea Diver

T&E writer Ray says, "The title track off much-loved Seattle locals Deep Sea Diver's most recent album is a kinetic reflection on uncertainty and self-doubt that features an impossibly catchy hook, biting guitar and Sharon Van Etten. What's not to like?"

"Go Get A Tattoo" -  Frank Carter and the Rattlesnakes, feat. Lynks

T&E writer Alex says, "It's a new year. We're a few weeks into January, and I'm thinking about what I'm hoping and wanting for myself this year. On 'Go Get A Tattoo,' I realize Frank Carter and I have a few things that we want out of life in common. A few simple things I'm hoping for this year: Tequila on the rocks, no lockdowns, a new tattoo (or two), and more than anything, just a little peace of mind."

"Baby I'm Bleeding" - JPEGMAFIA

T&E writer Sieya says, "In such a chaotic world, sometimes the only thing you can do is listen to chaotic music. When I'm feeling this way, JPEGMAFIA is one of my go to artists. "Baby I'm Bleeding" is my favorite song from his 2018 Album Veteran. The whole album is best listened to at full volume on the way home from work on a day when everyone has tried your patience. Bonus reason to support: The whole album was self-produced by Peggy."
