Written by Parisa Eshrati Tucson, Arizona psych band Mute Swan's song, "Burnt Almonds" premiering today on Trial and Error Collective, is a guitar-driven dream pop jam with ephemeral traces of shoegaze and ambient influences. The track is swirling in echoes and reverb, rooted in a bittersweet nostalgic sound reminiscent of bands like My Bloody Valentine and Cocteau Twins. "The name 'Burnt Almonds' comes from an Alan Watts lecture. He tells the story of a man who was part of a clinical experiment to see if anything could be brought back from a drug-induced mystical experience. The man is given standard medical-grade anesthesia (as would be given before surgery) and while unconscious experiences first-hand the secret of the universe! He wakes up and quickly writes down this great wisdom: 'Everything in the universe is the smell of burnt almonds.'" The track is off their upcoming album, title yet to be determined, that will be released this winter. The album has been three years in the making, and the band promises it will be their best work to date. They're about to embark on an East coast tour, which kicks off on September 3rd at Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix. Tour dates and more info below.
