It's Bandcamp Friday, which means it's time to open thy wallet! Need help figuring out what to purchase today? Below is a list of some recommended independent artists that deserve your ears and your support

Randy's Pick

Escape Room- Rural Internet
Genre: Art Hip Hop
I hope this blows up. The production is exciting and there’s nothing quite like it. This album moves through genres like it’s nothing, going from anthemic hip hop to equally anthemic indie pop. It’s passionate, unique, and incredibly original.

Parisa's Picks

In Solidarity: Texas Benefit Compilation - Various Artists
Genre: Hardcore
A stellar collection of hardcore, emo, metal, punk and powerviolence from Arizona. So much amazing talent on this comp, but a special shout out to the previously unreleased Warren of Ohms track that's a minute and thirty seconds of pure skramz brilliance. All proceeds raised from the Texas Benefit Compilation tape will be donated to ACLU Texas to fight for, protect and ensure safe abortion access. Great music for an even greater cause.

Saet El Hazz (The Luck Hour) - Maurice Louca
Genre: Shaabi
Egyptian traditional music, psychedelia, and free improvisational jazz all mixed together in this new release. Beautiful arrangements all around. Shout out to Observations of Deviance on KXCI for introducing me to this album!

To Live A La West - Saint Abdullah
Genre: Free jazz
I don’t remember how this ended up in my Bandcamp “wishlist”, but I’m sure glad it did! Crazy experimental free jazz with heavy electronic components, at times like a straight up industrial album. As aggressive as it is spiritual, a true work of art.

Gate of Klüna - KUUNATIC
Genre: Psychedelic rock
A tribal-psych trio rooted in Japanese music, but transcends traditions from all around the globe. The album doesn’t officially release for another few weeks, but after hearing a sneak preview, I guarantee you’ll want to preorder this!

A. Iwasa's Picks

First Daze Here - Pentagram
Genre:  metal
Protometal band, going at it since 1971 in a bluesy, doomy storm of glory!  The lead singer is the subject of the documentary Last Days Here.
▶︎ Pentagram (bandcamp.com)

Song 4 - Los Dune Bums
Genre:  cumbia punk
Unfortunately there is only this song on bandcamp by Dune Bums, but the cool this it’s on a live compilation documenting the scene they are a part of in Arcata, California.
▶︎ Los Dune Bums- Song 4 (8-3-19) | Various Artists Live at Outer Space Arcata | Outer Space Arcata (bandcamp.com)

Not. Coming. Home. - Future Storms
Genre:  bummer punk
When this band was a two piece, it was noisier, drums, bass and vocals.  Cool to hear how the project has progressed, but I still like the earlier material.
▶︎ Not. Coming. Home. | Future Storms (bandcamp.com)

Mi Confesion - Tim Kaye
Genre:  indie pop
Tim Kaye was the first contemporary touring musician I encountered who would tour alone with his keyboard, singing, and play around his town with a full band.  That was over 20 years ago and I really wonder why this guy hasn’t become rock revival’s Billy Joel or Elton John?!  This music is so good!
▶︎ Mi Confesión | Tim Kaye (bandcamp.com)

Thin Walls - Windmill of Corpses
Genre:  crust
It’s truly unfortunate this band is no more, but if you’ve got to call it quits, it’s good to leave on some notes like these.  Towards the severely metal end of the crust spectrum.
▶︎ Thin Walls | Windmill of Corpses (bandcamp.com)

32 oz - Worm
Genre:  folk punk
About as good as it gets!  Young suburban Chicago folk punx from a house show scene.
▶︎ 32 oz | worm (bandcamp.com)
