New Music Drops: June 2026

New Music Drops is a bi-monthly series on T&E where we share some of our favorite new releases from this year in rock, pop, metal, punk, hip-hop, and global music. For this installment, you'll find experimental techno, quirky leftfield pop, antifascist black metal, raw hardcore, avant-garde jazz, and so much more!

New Music Drops is posted on Bandcamp Friday, where all sales go directly to the artists. All selections this month from Parisa unless where otherwise noted.

Tomoyuki Trio - High Oxygen Blood
Genre: Psychedelic rock, noise
One of my favorite listens of the past couple months, and officially releasing today! Stooges and Sabbath worship heavy psych sounds filtered through the fuzzed out traditions of the underground Japanese guitar noise scene. What I especially love about this release is the (mostly) spoken word-style delivery of the vocals, not something you’d expect to hear from a reverb and distortion-heavy band such as this. 

Aldous Harding - Train on the Island
Genre: Alternative
The New Zealander freak-folk singer-songwriter Aldous Harding comes forth with her most personal and sonically evolved album to date. There’s so much press and high praise out there about this album that I don’t feel I could add much more, but I’d say if you enjoy the delicate voice of Vashti Bunyan with the brazen attitude of Fiona Apple, then you will certainly enjoy this album.  

of Montreal - aethermead
Genre: Indie
The psychedelic indie pop sounds we’ve all come to know and love from Kevin Barnes, but with a more personal and vulnerable touch. Somewhat of a “breakup record”, this album talks about isolation and loneliness and the process of rebirth.  I’m somewhat of a wayfaring of Montreal fan (I mostly just like The Sunlandic Twins) but I did enjoy this listen, perhaps because I like my pop music tinged with at least a lil bit of sadness.

otay:onii - Love Is In The Shit
Genre: Experimental
Not only dubbing this as my album of the year, but easily can say this is one of my new all time favorite albums. otay:onii is the solo project of Lane Shi Otayonii, the former singer of shoegaze band Elizabeth Colour Wheel and Boston experimental band Dent. This album is somehow both a challenging, intense experimental listen and an approachable art pop record. It weaves through industrial, harsh noise, glitchy electronica, drum and bass, with the pop sensibilities. Incredibly unique, emotional, beautiful - a bold listen through and through. I put it on for the first time, and immediately listened to it twelve more times in a row. Probably have heard this album 60+ times already, and I still look forward to hearing it every day.  [Edit: just published an interview with otay:onii for T&E - read it here!]

Anadol & Marie Klock - Manivelles
Genre: Leftfield pop
Quirky oddball pop from a collaborative duo between Turkish experimental producer Anadol and French vocalist Marie Klock. Similarly to their prior collab album, they produce a “undefinable mix of folk, kraut, and pop music nestled inside expansive organ-based arrangements”. Absolutely delightful.

Ecca Vandal - LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO UNFOLLOW
Genre: Alternative rock
While this album isn’t really my kinda thing, I thought I’d still mention it because it’s definitely really well done and would surely be enjoyed by many. Alternative rock by South African powerhouse vocalist Ecca Vandal with heavy elements of pop-punk and 00’s emo. For fans of: Deftones, Idles, Paramore

Father Dionysios Tabakis - Paradise Metal 
Genre: Drone
A meditative drone album by a Greek Orthodox priest who bases his scales and tuning in Byzantine music. It’s hymnal, ancient, and there’s also…techno? This album hits a sweet spot for people like me that wonder what would happen if Earth and Engima made a collab album. Favorite track: “Techno”

Golden Boots & Thee Verduns - Carbon Footprint
Genre: Alt country
A collaborative album between Tucson alt-country band Golden Boots and Nantes pop-rock group Thee Verduns. Together, they find a melodious marriage between jangly folk, French pop, garage rock, with country stylings. Great range from the fast, catchy upbeat garage pop gems like “Ils Braconnaient” to slower, more hypnotic twangy ballroom-esque instrumentals like “Confusion”. The famous Tucson x Nantes connection stays strong!

TV Star - Music for Heads
Genre: Jangle pop
New release from Seattle-based indie rockers that “sits at the intersection of jangly guitar music, psych-pop haze, and lived-in indie rock without leaning fully into any one lane.” Has a huge influence of ‘90s shoegaze and psychedelic pop, for fans of The Cranberries and Brian Jonestown Massacre. Really breezy, light and enjoyable listen - a great summer album

Rahill - Bahar 7”
Genre: Pop
New 7” from Iranian singer Rahill, who delivers a lush ‘70s-esque dubbed out synthpop groove on the original track “Yaar” and a sublime cover of Kourosh Yaghmaei’s “Del Dareh Pir Misheh”. A beautiful homage to her heritage and the sweetest ode to springtime. چه صدایی

Olof Dreijer - Loud Boom
Genre: Electronica
The first solo album from Olof Driejer, aka one half of Swedish electronic music duo The Knife, aka one of my favorite bands ever. Any fan of The Knife will be able to recognize Olof’s signature production style instantly, its bouncy, glistening synth sounds rooted in experimental structure and global influences. This album does, however, chart new territory than what we’ve heard from him before - more house, techno, and club music. Lots of great features, including Colombian MC Diva Cruz and Nigerian author Akwaeke Emezi. Favorite track: “Makwande (feat. Toya Delazy)”

foodman - Tee Den
Genre: Ghettotech
Three raw tracks from Japanese club producer foodman, who creates Ghettotech-inspired rave music with a Korg ESX. Ultra hyper, bouncy, metallic and repetitive until the beat just blasts itself out into oblivion.

Cosey Mueller - Embodiment of Denial
Genre: Synth punk
A stellar new album from Berlin-based synthy post-punk artist Cosey Mueller. Big bouncy synth sounds give the coldwave aesthetic a more playful quality. Some tracks have a hard EBM/techno lean to them, while others learn more into the straight electropunk territory. Favorite songs: “Der Politiker” and “Embodiment of Denial”

altrice - “goodbye! later on!”
Genre: House
Super slick new house single from Tucson’s best electronic music producer. Liquid groove, funky lil chopped up vocal sample, shiny production techniques, with a punchy beat that will keep you locked in and repeating this track over and over. Also recommend the single he released earlier this year, “think & dream”, if you’re looking for a bassy house track with some sweet R&B samples. RIYL: Kaytranada 

Salem - Red Dragon
Genre: Witch house 
I was going through some of my favorites of 2010, reeling in disbelief that the witch house wave was already 16 years ago, when I saw that Salem dropped a new album. It’s a hefty 31 tracks that had never gotten an official release until now. The real witch house heads will remember the grainy, low-quality rips on YouTube, but now you can hear ‘em pristine for the first time ever. Plus two new original songs!

Koyo - Barely Here
Genre: Pop-Punk/Emo
Sophomore album from the new kids out of Long Island. Big melodies over hardcore-tinged pop-punk that feel nostalgic but still sound fresh.  - Alex

Shaved Ape - Loveletter to Hardcore
Genre: Hardcore
Do yourself a favor and set aside 9 minutes of your day to check out this absolute ripper of an album from Pennsylvania-based hardcore band Shaved Ape. Fast, raw, reminiscent of early ‘80s sounding hxc

Useless Eaters - Music for Clout
Genre: Synth punk
If you saw my Top 10 list from 2025, you might remember the 7” singles I had recommended from recently reborn San Francisco garage/synth punk band Useless Eaters. This month they dropped a full release (which include those two singles) plus a slew of other blown out, scuzzed out, raw and moody synth punk. Very stoked to see new Useless Eaters music after a decade-long hiatus, and even more stoked that it’s some of their best work yet.

Deafkids - Cicatrizes Do Futuro 
Genre: Industrial
I guess to call this industrial is just scratching the surface - sure it’s heavy and electronic, but it’s also a shamanic twist on harsh noise, an avant-garde approach to punk, and an incredibly experimental twist on Brazilian percussive music.

Yleiset Syyt - Saitte Mitä Halusitte 
Genre: Hardcore
Another great release from Sorry State Records, with this group hailing from Finland. Per the promo, Syyt has a “knack for finding that circa-1981 hardcore sweet spot, evoking a moment when hardcore’s aggression bubbled over, yet the music still contained much of the pop architecture that anchored late 70s punk. In layman’s terms, I’m talking about hooks, which Yleiset Syyt has for days.” Indeed! Super catchy and riffy, love this album.

Fake Dust - Decrepitizing Din of the Cerebral Psyopticon
Genre: Grindcore
My friend (and DJ of the world’s best metal radio show, Grave Convulsions) sent a message in our group chat with this album, casually saying “check this out if you want to hear the best grind album of the year.” Well certainly I did, and certainly you should too.  Relentless, anxious and blazingly fast grind from Portland, absolutely rips.

Tumultuous Ruin - An Abscess on the Heart of the State
Genre: Black metal
Raw antifascist one-man band black metal, inspired by literature like Against His-story Against Leviathan, Ishmael, Desert, How to Blow Up a Pipeline, as well as “a general desire to destroy all systems of oppression.” One of my favorite black metal releases of the past month. Favorite song: “Desecrate Machine As Our World Dies”

Nocturnal Departure - Spiritual Cessation
Genre: Black metal
Another album discovered from the Grave Convulsions radio show! “Grim yet triumphant” black metal hailing from Winnipeg.

Cystgurgle - Cystgurling Dismantelemt
Genre: Goregrind 
Seven minutes of the garglin’, gurglin’, sloshin’ and moshin’ goregrind sounds from the sick, twisted perverts known as Cystgurgle. This album makes my tummy hurt :(

Hip-hop and R&B
​

Kneecap - Fenian
Genre: Hardcore hip-hop
While I’ve always loved Kneecap, I feel like I enjoyed their story and their politics more than the music itself. I feel like the fellas are growing into their sound more on this album, finding a way to more cohesively integrate their revolutionary spirit with their hype party attitudes. Songs like “Smugglers and Scholars” highly how adept they are are flowing effortlessly between Irish Gaelic and English

Quendresa - Rain in July / Be the One
Genre: R&B
Two single release from London soul singer Quendresa that I’m totally hooked on. The layered harmonies and sultry attitude have a quintessential ‘90s sound, with a very signature UK moody, cloudy atmosphere. You can hear big influences of classic 90’s divas like Toni Braxton, Aayliah, Brandy etc.

GENA - The Pleasure if Yours
Genre: R&B, neosoul
Neosoul duo Karriem Riggins (Detroit-based drummer and producer) and Liv.e (Dallas-based singer and rapper) come together for a beautiful harmony of jazz improvisation and beat science. Really sweet, lively and playful energy. A no-skips record that will definitely be getting repeated listens this summer. Favorite track: “You’ve Outdone Yourself Today”

Flea - Honora
Genre: Jazz
If you woulda told me that my favorite release of 2026 would be coming from Flea, I would’ve thought that’s doubtful. But now I find myself having listened to this album no less than a dozen times and appreciating it more with each listen. Unbelievable musicianship, progressive, funky, soulful, smooth, and thought-provoking. The lead single, “A Plea”, will definitely hook you in, but instrumental grooves like “Frailed” are the real masterpieces here. Also features some really sweet covers of Funkadelic and others.

Jesse Hackett - Nocturnes
Genre: Lounge, chamber music
Gothic piano melodies with a haunting, deteroriating production quality that makes this album feel like a classic horror soundtrack. Hackett is accompanied by saxophonist Finn Peters, and the two of them deliver something between the lines of Bill Evans and The Caretaker

Milton Michaeli, Asaf Shchori & Hamid Drake - Universal Butterfly
Genre: Avant-garde
Discovered this one on the Observations of Deviance radio show - my go-to show to discover new and old experimental jazz releases. This record, a collboration between pianist Milton Michaeli, double bassist Asaf Shchori, and legendary drummer Hamid Drake, displays an unbeliavable and energetic dynamic that is avant-garde in nature, but surprisingly accessible. This thing grooves! 

Aja Monet - the color of rain
Genre: Jazz, soul
Surrealist blues poet Aja Monet weaves her words between intentional, ethereal jazzy soul instrumentation. A deeply introspective and thought-provoking listen, not only for Monet's poetry but the way her voice and cadence become a part of the harmony. Favorite song: "love is a choosing (feat. Mereba)

Serokolo - Maramfa Muscik Pro
Genre: Mapanta
Electronic music from the Bapedi people of Limpopo. What may seem like a heady club soundtrack on the surface is actually a celebratory spiritual ritual of invoking family lineages, totems, and communal identity. A beautiful, danceable journey through and through. All the tracks are great but “Bonkoko Bagana” has this 90s rave nostalgia element to it that I can’t get over.

E’du & Judgitzu - Nuku 
Genre: Vodou
Ecstatic and frenetic collaboration between the Togolese Vodou ensemble E’du and French producer Judgitzu in a two 30-minute track release. Judgitzu takes these Vodou recordings and shifts the tempo and pitches, layering and looping and adding heavy industrial bass to create a sound that rattles your brain.

Cocanha - Flame Folclòre 
Genre: Occitan folk
A flamboyant and spirited release from a folk duo group that sing exclusively in Occitan, an endangered language that the French state has been trying to eradicate. This is the truest state of folklore, bringing forth personal and political identities in order to understand and celebrate a marginalized group. Historic melodies with modern twists, and beautiful polyphonic harmonies.

The Handover - New Old Medicine
Genre: Egyptian classical
A long form piece (broken up into two tracks) that take you on a deeply hypnotic and entrancing journey via an oud, violin, and vintage organ. A great one to close your eyes, lay down and listen to all the way through as a meditative journey. For fans of Egyptian folk music, spiritual jazz, and psychedelia alike.
